Polyatomic Ion Flashcards: 30 Names, Formulas & Charges

Learn 30 commonly taught polyatomic ions with 60 two-way flashcards for name, formula, and charge recall.

About this deck

These polyatomic ion flashcards cover 30 commonly taught ions in 60 two-way cards. You’ll practice name → exact conventional formula with charge and formula with charge → canonical or common name. Each direction has its own card, so recognizing a formula does not stand in for recalling it.

Every formula is written as standalone LaTeX with conventional subscripts and a superscript charge. The fixed sequence interleaves both directions and ion families, keeps close variants at least three unrelated cards apart, and leaves longer-term spacing to the review scheduler.

Hydrogen carbonate (bicarbonate) and hydrogen sulfate (bisulfate) are the only paired names. The deck leaves out monatomic ions; borate, phosphite, and silicate, whose classroom species or formula conventions can vary; and compound naming, charge balancing, structures, oxidation states, solubility, colors, applications, reaction prediction, and general naming-rule theory.

ChEBI records were used to verify names, formulas, and charges, with PubChem used as an independent cross-check where its exact ion record was unambiguous. All prompts, answers, selection, order, metadata, and cover composition were created independently. No source or competitor prose, images, screenshots, selection order, trade dress, or logos were copied. Facts are not claimed as proprietary. The original wording, organization, metadata, and cover are dedicated under CC0 1.0 to the extent applicable rights exist.
