Does Quizlet Work Offline in 2026? What Works Without Internet

A Quizlet set that opens while you have a signal is not automatically ready when the connection disappears. Quizlet does work offline in 2026, but its official promise is narrow: use the iOS or Android app, save the sets you need, and study them with Flashcards or Match. Quizlet does not document offline study on its website or promise that your whole library will be available.

The mobile apps automatically save eight recently used sets when offline saving is enabled. You can download more yourself. Creating and editing sets also work offline in the apps, and Quizlet says those changes publish when you reconnect.

Can you use Quizlet offline? Yes, within these limits

The official Quizlet offline guide separates the mobile apps from the website and documents only certain tasks:

How to download the Quizlet sets you actually need

Quizlet says its mobile apps automatically save eight of your most recently used sets after you turn on offline saving. That can cover a short commute. It can also create false confidence if the set you need is older, if you recently opened several other sets, or if the download is still running.

For anything important, download the set manually. Open it while connected and select the download icon. A check mark indicates that the set has been saved for offline use.

Quizlet gives two useful warnings in the same help page:

• a large set may take several minutes to download fully;
• a grey set title means the set is not currently available for offline study.

Do not turn off the connection as soon as you tap download. Wait for the check mark, then test the set without internet.

The setting and download location differ slightly between the two apps.

On iPhone or iPad

1. Open Profile.
2. Open Your settings.
3. Turn on Save sets for offline studying.
4. Open every additional set you need and select the download icon.
5. To find saved sets, go to Library → Flashcard sets, then choose Downloaded from the dropdown.

On Android

1. Open Account.
2. Turn on Save sets for offline use.
3. Open every additional set you need and select the download icon.
4. To find saved sets, go to Library → Flashcard sets → Downloads.

On either platform, look for a check mark on each manually downloaded set. If a title is grey, do not count that set as ready.

Once offline, plan to use Flashcards or Match. Those are the two modes Quizlet names in its instructions. The guide does not say that Learn or Test is impossible offline; it simply does not document either one. If your routine depends on another mode, test it on the exact device before you lose the connection.

Offline edits and progress need a reconnect

The mobile apps let you create and edit sets without internet. Quizlet says those changes are automatically published after you reconnect.

Drafts need more care. According to Quizlet's draft-set instructions, drafts do not sync between the website and mobile apps. A draft started on the website will not appear in the app, and a mobile draft will not appear on the website. Logging out of the mobile app before publishing a draft discards it, and the discarded draft cannot be restored.

The website has a separate loss-of-connection warning: if Quizlet cannot save terms, it asks you to keep the page open so they can be saved after reconnection. That is recovery for an interrupted web editing session, not a documented offline website workflow.

If you write cards on a trip, stay logged in. Reconnect, let the app publish, and check the set before logging out or changing devices.

Quizlet stores offline study progress on the device. When the connection returns, refresh the app so that progress can sync. Do not treat reconnection alone as confirmation. If you expect to continue on another device, open the set there and verify the updated progress first.

This also explains why downloading a set and backing it up are different jobs. An offline copy supports study on that device. It is not a separate, portable archive of the set. Test media-heavy sets instead of guessing

Quizlet's offline help page explains set downloads, study modes, editing, and progress. It does not document whether every image and audio type is included in a download or whether every media action works offline.

That missing detail matters for language pronunciation, anatomy diagrams, maps, and any card where the media carries the answer. Text opening correctly does not prove the complete card is ready.

Use the exact set in your test. Open several cards with images, play any audio you need, close the app, and open it again while still in airplane mode. If one media type fails, prepare a text-only version or another permitted copy before the trip. Do not assume that a download check mark guarantees undocumented media behavior.

A ten-minute test before you go

Run this on the same phone or tablet you will carry. Testing a second device proves nothing about the first device's downloads.

1. Connect to a reliable network. If you plan to update Quizlet, do it now rather than immediately before going offline.
2. Open the app, confirm you are logged in, and enable offline saving.
3. Manually download every required set, even if it appears among the eight recent sets.
4. Wait for each check mark. Give large sets several minutes, and investigate any grey title.
5. Turn on airplane mode. Make sure both Wi-Fi and mobile data are actually unavailable.
6. Fully close Quizlet, reopen it, and find the sets through the Downloaded list or Downloads tab.
7. Open each required set. Study a few cards in Flashcards, run Match, and check every image or audio type you need.
8. Create one clearly labeled test set or make a harmless test edit. Complete a few study actions, then close and reopen the app to confirm the local work remains.
9. Reconnect, refresh Quizlet, and verify that the edit, new set, and study progress appear as expected.
10. Remove the test content only after that verification.

This rehearsal catches what an “offline” label cannot: the wrong set, an unfinished download, a grey title, a missing media item, or a routine built around a mode Quizlet never documented for offline use.

When Quizlet offline mode is enough—and when it is not

Quizlet without internet is a reasonable setup when you study on iOS or Android, know which sets you need, and are happy with Flashcards or Match. A flight does not require changing study apps if that narrow workflow passes your test.
